Healthcare Billing Specialist

Salary: $35,000.00 to $40,000.00 /year

The Billing Specialist is responsible for billing for our SNF and clinic services. The Billing Specialist is responsible for accurately capturing charges for all services provided by Encounter providers including verifying demographic and insurance information prior to claim submission. The Billing Specialist monitors insurance payments for proper payment and communicates with payers concerning non-payment. The position is responsible for updating patient information to support correct billing and regularly reports error trends to the Director of Operations for system improvements.

The Billing Specialist reports to the Director of Operations.

Essential Billing Functions

  • Reviews patient demographic and insurance information for accuracy
  • Reviews CPT and ICD-10-CM codes, place of service, and location for accuracy
  • Processes charges in EMR/billing system to submit billing claims
  • Completes claim submission and batch reconciliation
  • Monitors insurance responses for rejections.
  • Posts payments
  • Submits appeals and monitors appeal responses
  • Completes billing reports from time to time
  • Meets productivity goals as set from time to time
  • Assists in completing other work as directed


  • Ability to work professionally and respectfully in a fast-paced environment
  • Empathy and a genuine interest in working with patients and healthcare providers to improve the quality of life for all
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in practice management or professional fee billing
  • A self-starter who works well independently and takes ownership of their role
  • Basic understanding of CPT and ICD-10-CM codes
  • General computer competency including internet for research, Word, and basic Excel
  • Experience using an EMR
  • Ability to review medical records for completion
  • Excellent written and verbal communications and strong customer service skills
  • Maintain confidential information and comply with all HIPAA and PHI standards
